Gabriel Saloman has received a commission from CRES Media Arts Committee (MAC) as part of their 2015 themed call: “Paying Homage

His completed piece is titled “Compositions 1960” and is an exploration of the seminal work of La Monte Young. Join the most recent Commission Artists and Artists in Residence at MAC, Jesse Taylor, Phil Edward Woolf, Derek Lappano, and Gabriel Saloman, for an evening exploring sound art past and present.


MAC presents: Working with Sound: Artist Talk & Workshop

Working with Sound is a series offered by MAC (Media Arts Committee) that offers workshops, artist talks, and resources for Sound Artists based in Vancouver, BC. Check our website for opportunities for sound art commissions and artist residencies:

The workshop “Introduction to Sound Art” will be a discussion about what sound art is, and will include a hands-on recreation of a traditional piece. The workshop will take place from 6-7pm.

Stay from 7-9pm for the presentation of the works of our most recent Commission and Artist in Residence at MAC, Jesse Taylor, Phil Edward Woolf, Derek Lappano, and Gabriel Saloman

Welcome to Sound Art! In this workshop we will explore a selected history of approaches to making Sound Art. The workshop will have an emphasis on techniques and practices used by noteable sound artists from past until present. There will be hands-on exercises giving participants the opportunities to try and re-create Sound Art pieces/techniques. This workshop is open to anyone who is interested in a selected introduction to Sound Art.


The CRES Media Arts Committee (MAC) is dedicated to serving, supporting, and building on the sound art and experimental audio community in Vancouver as well as supporting audio artists from around the world. The focus on the program is local and Canadian sound artists; however, proposals from international applicants will be considered.

MAC is run from Studio B at Vancouver Co-operative Radio, located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The program offers artists and members the opportunity to borrow professional audio equipment. The studio has the latest version of Pro Tools as well as other audio mixing and editing software and hardware that is necessary for studio use. MAC offers a Sound Artist in Residence program for emerging sound artists, an Audio Art Commissioning series, and a variety of workshops and events with experienced guest and in station facilitators.
