Fillip is pleased to present an evening of experimental music and video by Monty Cantsin (Gabriel Saloman), Gretchen Snakes, and Robert Filliou at the Western Front, Vancouver, in celebration of the launch of our new digital publishing platform (fillip.ca, online March 6).
The Eternal Network, so named by Fluxus artists Robert Filliou and George Brecht in 1965, exists through the collective and continued efforts of artists around the world.
On March 7, Monty Cantsin (Gabriel Saloman, Jeremy Harris, Spark Simiapath, Byron Peters) resurfaces for a one-off performance of a new composition, alongside a noise/drone set by Vancouver-based Gretchen Snakes. The night also revisits the Western Front’s role as an important historical node in the Eternal Network, through screenings of Robert Filliou’s 1970s artist-in-residence performances—shown in the site of their creation, the Grand Luxe Hall.
This event is organized in conjunction with the introduction of a new Fillip website and the online publication of Ken Becker’s essay “Not Just Some Canadian Hippie Bullshit: The Western Front as Artists’ Practice,” forthcoming in Fillip 20 (Spring 2015).
